Hopefully the focus on him returning to the mound won’t affect his batting, as his everyday bat and on base threat are much more important than a quality start every 6 games or so. We saw him wear down as the season wore on and eventually get injured, so going forward they need to focus less on getting him to pitch into the 6th or 7th inning and more about finding a balance of satisfying his first love of pitching, while resting him enough that he’s still effective at the plate. He’s not getting any younger and it will only get harder, and you can all see he was never going to beat the Miz for Cy Young if he was to continue to DH as well. The same will be true the next few years he still decides to take both on.

I think it will take a division winning pennant race where the numbers are consistent and near equal to Shohei for him to pull it off, tho.
