There are a lot of similarities: the things you mentioned, their slim builds, their philosophy of suppleness, the almost contrived perfection of their records. Ichiro put up the extraordinary achievement of winning seven consecutive batting titles in Japan, but the closest parallel is probably Yoshinobu Yamamoto winning the pitching Triple Crown three years in a row (For more details, see the statistics sections of their Japanese Wikipedia pages). Both could be said to be the result of refining their skills to the absolute limit.

the existence of players who break that mold doesn't mean height doesn't matter. 6'3" is a 99th percentile height in the US but consistently around average for MLB pitchers, that's about as strong of a statistical case for something "mattering" as you'll ever find.

5'8" is hardly small! The guys keep saying Yamamoto's small, but that is literally in the context of MLB athletes, so unless youre gunning for a professional baseball/basketball career I wouldnt worry! 🙂
