彼が言いたいのはたぶんそういう意味じゃない気がするけど、正直よくわからん。実家の家族とは完全に疎遠ってわけじゃないと思うけど、たいていの大人って（俺の感覚では）配偶者と毎日顔合わせるみたいに親や兄弟と毎日会ったりはしないよな。
たぶん彼は野球選手の中でも自分が異質だって感じてるんだと思う。多くの選手には妻や子供、少なくとも彼女がいて、それだけでかなりの自由時間を持ってかれる。それに野球やってない時や家族と過ごしてない時はゴルフや釣りにハマってる奴らもいっぱいいて、それもまた相当な時間を食う。もし彼が一人暮らしで野球以外に趣味が無いなら、野球が人生のすべてになるのも十分に納得できる話だわ。

I think that’s probably not what he means, though I don’t really know for certain. I’m sure he has a family of origin that he’s at least not completely estranged from, but most adults (I think) don’t see their parents and siblings every day the way people see their spouses every day.
I think he probably just feels like an outlier among ballplayers. I think a lot of them have wives and kids, or girlfriends at least, and that takes up a lot of free time. Then there are all the guys who are super into golf or fishing or whatever when they’re not playing baseball or with their wives/kids/girlfriends. That stuff takes up a ton of time, too. If the guy lives alone and doesn’t have any hobbies outside of baseball, I can totally see why he thinks of baseball as his whole life.
