Personally I’d bet on most Japanese baseball players going forward. We should be doing everything we can to get in good there. Hire Darvish as a team ambassador there when he retires

Bruh Darvish is STILL playing?? Crazy

Also helps having DFW. One of the few airports that will even travel to certain parts of East Asia.

Japan’s Sports Hochi reported on November 4 that Oda began meetings with Major League teams at a school baseball stadium in Yokohama City. Oda, his mother, and Murata Hiroaki, the Yokohama High School coach, attended the first session on November 4, where they met with the Texas Rangers. They are scheduled to hold meetings with 12 MLB teams until November 17.
After 2 p.m., a group of Texas Rangers officials arrived at the school in three taxis. Among them were Korean two-way prospect Kim Seong-jun and Fukuda Masahiro, a pitcher from Japan’s independent league. The Rangers’ delegation included Josh Boyd, Vice President, and Johnny Klum, International Scouting Director, alongside players from Korea and Japan.
In an interview with Japanese media, Director Klum stated, “The large number of attendees shows how much interest we have in Oda. Our minor league players, who are close in age, could share their experiences—both successes and struggles—with him.” Regarding Kim’s presence, he explained, “Kim is 19, close in age to Oda, and also comes from Asia. We thought he could provide detailed insights and answer questions. We wanted Oda to gain in-depth knowledge from someone with a similar background.”
Here is more on Oda if you are unfamiliar

The wording of “Texas Rangers deploy Kim Seong-jun” is killing me, its like they saw another potential overseas star and said SEND IN HIS ASIAN PEER

They are in a similar boat though. SJK was an international free agent signing and a prominent one and is now a top 10 prospect on the team. Oda is in the same position as him last year.
Probably just want to give him a personal testimony, why he chose it, how life is treating him, etc. They also sent in a Japanese Minor leaguer to meet with him but he's not ranked in the system.

From someone living in Korea right now:
"He's Japanese so we sent the Korean" sounds a bit like "You're from Chicago? I know Bob from Chicago, do you know him too?" or more accurately "We need that guy from Oklahoma, so we sent someone from Texas because it's pretty much the same place." This is especially not great because Japanese and Koreans hate each other (more from the Korean side because of occupation and atrocities).
Now honestly I don't know about Kim's Japanese ability, and I don't know Oda's Korean ability, but statistically both are more likely to know English than each other's language, even if the languages are kind of related. The problem there is, and again I mean this with all due respect, Kim's English is surprisingly bad. Most high school kids here can speak a decent amount. I'll just chalk that up to him going to what I would guess is a baseball specialty high school (yes those exist and I vaguely remember reading something about that but don't wanna go chase down the link on my phone) but that would probably lean towards him not knowing Japanese also.
Japan and Korea might have some similarities when it comes to baseball culture and school culture, but not a giant amount. I guess more than they share with American baseball culture but again it's like someone saying Texas and Oklahoma are the same place. Yu Darvish would have been a much better choice. I'm just glad we are putting forth the effort though, and these two might end up being best friends if we can develop them together.

Don’t they know Japan and Korea are historical enemies?

Idk what 157 km/h means but sign me up

Like 95-97mph

An 18 year old throwing 97 is the kind of arm you chase. I'm glad the Rangers showed up in force for this one.

Isn’t this relatively common these days? And again before any mouth breathers try to jump me for this, key word here being “relatively”.

It's still very rare. A 97mph fastball is top 20% even at the MLB level.
Players are often not fully grown at 18; Jacob Misiorowski for example was at 90mph as a HS senior.

He'll probably wind up on the west coast somewhere when it's all said n done because of the huge Japanese population.

ive been hoping the rangers would pick up some asian talent

I love this !!
