mmm, Benitez had very good years with the Mets. his best. he was always plagued with pitching himself into trouble because of control. the numbers bare out that he more often than not pitched himself out of said trouble. career whip of 1.217. 1.133 on the Mets. all those walks did not instill confidence but he was superior to what Williams is putting out there and the numbers say it wasn't playing in a big market.

The difference between the two of them, and I don't mean this as an excuse for the way some talked about McNeil, is Senga is a very easy guy to root for. Quiet, humble, and professional. You could also tell part of his struggles were mental (/all the analytics forced upon him and the rest of the staff) and it was really eating him up inside. Easy to feel for a guy like that, especially when they would be getting lit up by some in the fanbase. McNeil, at least at times, would wear his frustration…
