Ya he told everyone very clearly he wasn't going to accept a draft pick so they took a huge risk banking on the idea they could change his mind and only did so by offering him the opportunity to play two way.

Thanks for the confirmation! Wow that seems way too risky without any kind of compensation pick. Although, I guess the small chance they persuade him means an undisputed high value pick since no other team put a bid in.

当人は巨人を（そしてNPB全体を）普通に断って、早くからMLBに挑む道を選ぶ権利が完全に残されている。
指名後のインタビューを見る限り、巨人は1巡目指名をドブに捨てたっぽいが。

From what I've read, all this has done is that the Yomiuri Giants now have exclusive negotiation rights with Shoki Oda, within the NPB.
The kid is still completely able to just say no to the Giants (and NPB as a whole) and take his chances with an early future in the MLB instead.
And based on a post-draft interview , it seems like the Giants have wasted their 1st round pick:
"Honestly, I'm surprised," Oda said. "I got an extremely honorable nomination, but as I've conveyed at the press conference, my desire to challenge the United States (baseball) does not waver at all."

They lose the rights if he doesn't sign by end of March (I think) next year, no matter what he does. Sugano for example just sat out a year and was drafted the next by another team

The giants are notorious for not posting guys, if it was the Fighters there may have been a chance to convince him to stay but I dont see it with the Giants

That's one way to guarantee you won't ever land the biggest talents. If the Fighters had the no posting rule then they would of never gotten Ohtani.

だから基本的にポスティングは容認してないし、数少ない例も実質FA同然の年齢になってからしか認めてないんだよ。

Okamoto wanted to be posted years ago and was shot down. Okamoto is also a 10 yr vet in Japan. In the npb teams control players for 9 yrs.
And in their history theyve posted 3 guys in the near 30 years this system was in place and those 3 were 32, 29 and 29.
So they dont really post guys and the few times they did, they only do it once those guys reach what should have been FA
