As a white Sox fan it’s been great watching baseball again. I stopped watching them for years because they were miserable. It’s crazy how greedy most of the owners are. They don’t care more people will want to watch a winning team which translates to more money for them. I’m living proof of that.

Ownership is so old and myopic for a lot of these teams they see 5 years as a lifetime and would rather burn everything and hate their life then leave a successful franchise that they own and millions of potential fans would love but instead they choose to squeeze their franchise dry and die of old age. That’s my life as a reds fan, I’m sure you white Sox fans feel similar. It makes me not even hate the people I’m supposed to hate because I see their fans as wayyy too similar to me. Just people suffocated by a billion dollar industry that once existed as just americas pastime with well paid athletes but not hundred millionaires. Now it’s corporate trash and won’t be good for a very long time.

Hey, thanks. A Sox fan, I had stopped watching games 3 years ago. This year is a miracle for many reasons. Vargas is pretty amazing now. The whole team is only maybe 10% below him in hitting and very decent pitching and fielding. We got THREE on the AS Team, and 5 or 6 were close to that level. So many 6+ run innings. Watch out Dodgers!

yeah but that team was not made the way this one was. Kenny Williams got incredibly lucky in one offseason. He signs Jermaine Dye, Aj Pierzynski, and Tadahito, and then trades for Podsednik. We then have our closer replaced by Dustin Hermanson who goes on to have the best year of his career, he gets injured, and we call up Bobby Jenks. And that doesnt even get to the part where 4 of our starting pitchers had one of the best years of their respective careers. Only 3 of our top players on that 05 team were drafted by the White Sox. Joe Crede, Mark Buehrle and Aaron Rowand.

it wasnt run like a top tier franchise though. We never had good drafts and we never made good trades for young talent. Kenny got lucky in 05 and then kept trying to band-aid the team which kept us in a state of mediocrity for a decade plus

Mune started it. He was like a house on fire that even if he was striking out his swing still strikes fear to the pitchers. Then much more when he was hitting bombs and proving all the scouts wrong. These gave Vargas and the other Whitesox players the time and just to relax from the pressure and littl by little get hot until they are so hot that they were now caryying the team with him. Then when Mune went down with the injury luckily Vargas was already hot and he sustained that and got a well deserved all Star spot.
