That's true for the anime and marketing, but I don't think I've ever seen a Japanese speaker specify that Z is their favorite anime or refer to the franchise casually as such, which is what the commenter is getting at I think. This even goes for some Japanese speaking channels with merch and shit that's only the Z era. This could be a holdover from the manga all being under one title though, so IDK.

Dragonball is really one continuous story (the manga for example has no Z), the anime was split into Z for production reasons (get more money). So people in Japan (and worldwide) just refer to is all as Dragonball

I'm Japanese and I think of Dragonball/DBZ as basically being the same anime. But I do think of Super or GT and other anime series that weren't based on the manga by Toriyama-sensei as being different.

I'm from Shiga Prefecture. a little east of Kyoto in the central part of the main island. It's famous for Lake Biwa, which also borders Kyoto, but there are some beautiful hiking trails and hot springs in the area. 俺は昔テレビで放送されてたオリジナルのDBZを見て育ったけど、それ以来一度も見直してないんだ。見る価値のあるパロディ短縮版があるって聞いたけど、オリジナルの無印ドラゴンボールもずっとチェックしてみたいと思ってたんだよね。

I grew up on the original dbz toonami run and never revisited any of it since then. I heard there was an (old now) abridged version that's worth a watch, but I also always wanted to check out the original Dragonball.

Yeah, possibly an undiagnosed learning disability. Also, he might specifically be talking about manga and not "books" as the post implies. I've personally found graphic novels/comics as a tougher medium for me than novels for possibly similar reasons where characters and events aren't as sticky in my brain for whatever reason as they are in novels.

reading japanese books is much different than western language books. kanji is not the same as their basic alphabet and books use kanji almost exclusively. japanese students slowly learn kanji characters through grade school into high school, and even then that’s not even close to knowing “a lot” of them. so basically if he didn’t study in high school and played baseball all the time for the rest of his life, he has no way of fully understanding a japanese book.

「could of/should of/would of」はめちゃくちゃで、実際のフレーズは「could have/should have/would have」だと指摘するとキレる無数の人たちと同じだね。無知であることを誇りに思っているか、あるいは正されてただ怒っているだけで、自分が間違っていると認めたくない人がいるんだ。

It's like the numerous people that get pissed off when you point out that "could of/should of/would of" is nonsense and the actual phrase is "could have/should have/would have." Some people are proud of being ignorant or just angry they're getting corrected and don't want to admit they're wrong.
