Interesting, I thought the one in Jurong was like a softball field. I stay in the East so I've never visited it either. Maybe I'll pay it a visit one day.
And yes, we definitely need a better system for baseball (and softball), including umpires as well. I had a friend who wanted to play baseball but there was no baseball team in any of her schools. I think we need more interest in the sport first, though, I know very few people who watch any form of baseball at all.

There's a softball & baseball field. But then again i think the dimensions werent accurate enough for it to be called a baseball field. At least that's what I heard. (Used to umpire for softball)
The only schools with baseball are probably the international schools. The one in Woodlands (Singapore American School) up in the north has a very nice field and dugout .

しかも将来的にクレメンティに移転する予定なんだ。新しい球場は今のところ（球場と言える代物ならだけど）より良くなるといいな

And they are gonna shift to Clementi in the future. Hopefully the new ballpark is better than the current one (if it can be considered one)

偶然なんだけど、ちょうど仕事のプレゼン資料を作ってて、シンガポールの学校がソフトボールの全国学校体育大会（NSG）に参加してる割合について調べてるんだ。残念ながらシンガポールには野球のNSGはないんだよね

追記：友達ならまずはソフトボールから入る方が簡単かも！本格的なファストピッチのチームもあるし、緩いスローピッチのレクリエーションチームもあるよ

Coincidentally I’m in the midst of prepping a presentation for work that touches on the percentage of schools in SG participating in the National Schools Games for softball. And no, there’s no NSG for baseball in Singapore sadly
Edit: may be easier for your friend to get into softball first! There are some more competitive teams playing fast pitch and recreational teams around that plays slow pitch

Oh yeah my friend played softball in secondary school and JC lol. I think she played in a relatively competitive team then. Unfortunately we're graduated already but it would be nice if we could have NSG for baseball!

他のソースとも突き合わせる必要があるけど、暫定的な集計だと小学校のNSGはジュニア部門で15校、シニア部門で14校。C部門は男子が15校、女子が9校だ。遅い時間だから他の部門まではまだ調べられてない。

Googleで調べたシンガポールの小中学校の数（2025年の統計データ）が正しいとすれば、小学校で7〜8%、中学校で6〜11%という割合になる。これはNSGに参加している数字で、ソフトボールを部活（CCA）として提供していてもNSGにチームを送っていない学校は含まれてないから注意してね

I still need to verify with other sources but my preliminary count is 15 schools for junior division, 14 schools for senior division for primary school NSG. For C div, boys teams from 15 schools and girls teams from 9 schools. Haven’t gotten to the other divisions because it’s late.
If I take Google’s count of the number of pri/sec schools in Singapore (it took from 2025 singstat) as correct, we are looking at 7-8% for primary schools and 6-11% for secondary schools. Bear in mind these numbers are based on participation in NSG and don’t include schools which offer softball as CCA but do not send teams to NSG

Oh, that’s a far smaller percentage than I had thought. I wonder if it’s because softball teams need a lot of members and hence a lot of schools just don’t have the required number of members to participate. Is the number of schools that offer softball but don’t send teams to NSG significant?

そうじゃないと思う。シンガポールでは『打って守る』タイプの競技は不人気だし、一般的に馴染みがないんだ。国のカリキュラムに含まれてはいるものの、教える側の教師自身がルールや戦術の細かいところをよく分かってないこともある。サッカーやバドミントン（政府統計でも人気トップ10に入るスポーツ）なら、素人でも大体何をすればいいか分かるだろ。でも野球やソフト、クリケット、ラウンダーズ、ペサパッロとかはそうはいかない。

I don’t think so. Striking-fielding games are not popular in Singapore and generally unfamiliar to us. Even though such games are part of our national curriculum, the teachers teaching these games may also be unfamiliar with the intricacies of such games themselves. Talk about football or badminton (which are in the top 10 popular sports/exercise in Singapore according to data.gov.sg), any layperson would have a passing knowledge of what to do in a game. Not so for baseball/softball/cricket/rounders/pesapallo etc.
Anyway I digress. What I mean to say is that the unfamiliarity of the game probably lead to the low take up rate amongst schools here

本当にその通りだと思う。体育でソフトボールをやった時、先生はルール（特にベースランニング）をよく知らなくて、かなり簡略化しようとしてたよ。それに大勢のクラスだと、待ち時間や何もしない時間が多すぎて、野球系のスポーツはやりづらいんだよね。サッカーやバド、テニスみたいな単純なゲームなら、同時に複数のグループでプレイできるし、プレイ中に『ぼーっと待つ』こともない。でも野球やソフトは、試合の半分は守備で、誰も外野まで打てないから外野手は本当に何もすることがない。打撃も順番待ちだから、このゲームは『退屈』っていうネガティブな（大抵は間違った）印象が強まっちゃうんだよね

Yes, I definitely agree. When we played softball in physical education, the teachers weren’t very familiar with the rules, especially baserunning, and tried to simplify them. I also think that in a large class setting, striking-fielding games aren’t easy to play because of the amount of waiting/not doing anything. In simpler games like football/badminton/tennis, multiple groups of students can play at one time and when you’re playing, you aren’t just ‘waiting passively’. However, for baseball/softball, half of the game involves fielding, and outfielders often do nothing because no one hits the balls so far, and batting is also done in turns, so this furthers the negative (and often incorrect) perception that the game is ‘boring’.

I agree with you about the engagement level not being as high as other games. The presentation I’m working on is about breaking down such games, modifying them to keep engagement levels high and encouraging others to be more open minded when teaching it

I’m a fan of Carp from Singapore too! The atmosphere in Hiroshima and at their ballpark during game day is amazing!

Nothing is really comparable to NPB in the US. College sports come close I guess. I’ve not gotten to Hiroshima personally yet but I stream Japanese cable tv so I watch games from home!
