PCA has a higher WAR. He plays Center Field everyday (except today ironically) as opposed to Ohtani who plays DH 80 percent of the time when he’s healthy and all the time when he isn’t (like right now). PCA is a gold glove center fielder with the same amount of homers and more steals than Ohtani. Ohtani is unbelievable but he doesn’t always deserve MVP every year. He’s only pitched half a season if he doesn’t return to the mound this year. Ohtani is definitely not a “unanimous” MVP. Mark DeRosa and Sean Casey both said that PCA is the current MVP front runner based on his war and everyday value on both sides of the ball. Ohtani is definitely in the conversation and might end up winning it, but he’s not the “unanimous MVP” this year by any stretch of the imagination

if shohei picks up pitching again before the playoffs (doubt that’s going to happen) then maybe he’s got a shot, but like you said PCA has the higher WAR, is an everyday position player, and has elite baserunning and fielding stats. If PCA keeps playing the way he does, I think he’ll probably win it.

’s pitched 85 innings so far and plays DH every other inning. That’s not a unanimous MVP nor is it that impressive when you consider that PCA plays every inning in center field while playing gold glove caliber defense. PCA has more homers and steals than Ohtani this year too. Plus his WAR is way better and that’s the most meaningful overall stat to show a player’s total value

He hits well and pitches. The NL has added the DH as well so pitchers don’t hit in the NL now either. Even when they did they didn’t hit well. Most would bat under .150. Ohtani does both well. In my opinion he isn’t the best at either, he’s really good, but the fact that he does both makes him very valuable.

You might want to check those stats again, because Shohei has more RBI's, a higher batting avg., a higher OBP, a higher SLG, a higher OPS, a higher OPS+, the same home runs! Other than those, then yea PCA has a higher WAR which if you look at the numbers you can see that is bogus.
