I like Happ, and am usually not like this, but I'd be fine with them leaving left open for the jaguar to start the year, and if it doesn't look like it's going to work out, upgrading at the deadline or giving someone else like Hartshorn a shot.

I don't think it's as bad as the Dodgers situation, but I'm ready to try something different. Happ is definitely an everyday player, but not irreplaceable. I just can't really figure out what they're thinking with Alcantara. Maybe he's not everyday quality, and maybe other teams are low enough on him a trade wasn't worth it, but it seems obvious to give him a shot.

Alcantara is not worth banking on. It's one thing to give him spot starts on occasion, and switch him off as DH, best case scenario is he grows into being a regular starter like Javy did, but right now he has huge flaws with his swing that conviently get ignored by the majority of our fanbase because they're obsessed with his measurables that make it a bad idea to seriously run him as the regular LF as a contending team. If they let Happ walk they should sign Arozarena or Sato to take his place …

I'm not saying they should bank on him, he obviously has flaws. But he's also 24 with a lot of upside. He's probably going to be a pretty uneven player, but he's shown everything he needs to in the minors, and all the other options have flaws, too. You can almost always find someone to stand in LF, hell, the Cubs could be playing Conforto out there for free now, too. Why not give the prospect a chance?

Is him getting spot starts not a chance? He's been called up the last 3 years and gets plenty of opportunities to prove himself. Unlike Ramirez, who can play anywhere, he hasn't exactly been impressive overall. idk why he gets pushed so much more than other prospects

Not really, no. Everyone I've ever heard talk about him, from reporters to commentators to prospect guys have said he'll need to be given some runway to play everyday, not just come up and get a spot start or pinch run once a week. He's never even gotten more than 2 PAs in a game this year.

I agree, especially with how the Cubs usually treat their prospects. However, he's on pace to start next year at AA, which would put him an injury or terrible performance away from a cup of coffee. I think generally they'd be more likely to give him a cup of coffee in September next year, and have him start 2028 in AAA, assuming no issues. Just saying they have other outfield prospects on the horizon. Conrad, Kepley, maybe Johnny Long gets a shot in LF?

Long got traded. Conrad has 24 games of professional experience and missed most of his draft year to injury. Kepley just got promoted to AA, we have no idea how he'll look in the upper minors yet. And Hartshorn is 19 man. None of these guys are the plan for 2027.
