Not just his splitter and triple digit fastball, but his slider has arguably been his best pitch this season. He throws it 22% of the time, generated a .171 xBA and .279 xSLG with 39.5% whiff rate. In contrast, he throws his splitter about 29% of the time, generated .212 xBA and .329 xSLG with 36.6% whiff rate. That has honestly been the biggest difference between this season and the last. The slider is so good because it drops straight down with gyro type of spin, so it is very hard to read (optical illusion). This season the average swing and miss distance is 5.7 inches on his slider, not only are hitters swing over it but they are usually early on it too. The average swing and miss distance is 3.8 inches on his splitter, so while they swing over it they are usually on time. His fastball has really been his biggest issue, despite the velocity and IVB and spin rate (he has improved his spin rate alot from last year's 2100 to this year's 2300-2400 rpm) and elite extension, his fastball still allows an xBA of over .300, which is still the case even during this hot streak. He needs to locate it better and probably strategically use it more at eye level instead of down in the zone.

1986年に朗希に会ったことがある。当時、サウスカロライナ州の小さな沿岸の町で、謙虚な魚屋を営んでいたんだ。普通の服の代わりに、巨大な空気注入式の野球ボールを着ていた。今思えばちょっと変だったが、当時は大して気にとめなかった。ただ、魚屋よりも野球ボールになりたい男なんだということは伝わってきたよ。 だから知り合いに連絡して、朗希の両親と会う段取りをつけて、18年後に日本で日本人として産んでもらうことに同意してもらい、素晴らしい野球ボールに育てることを約束させたんだ。 残念ながら野球ボールではなく人間として生まれてしまったが、とにかく素晴らしい野球選手になる道へ進ませてくれた。それが次善の策となり、最近のドジャースにとってはかなりうまくいっているようだな。

I met Roki back in 1986, when at the time he was only a humble fishmonger in a small coastal town in South Carolina. He was wearing a giant inflatable baseball instead of regular clothing, which in hindsight was kind of weird but at the time I didn't think much of it. But it did show me that here was a guy who wants to be a baseball rather than a fishmonger. So I called my guy and set up a meeting with Roki's parents and they agreed to make him Japanese and be born in Japan 18 years later or whatever, and promised to raise him to be a great baseball. Unfortunately, he was born as a human instead of a baseball, but they set him down the path to be a great baseball playing human anyways, which was the next best thing, and which was worked out pretty well for the Dodgers lately.
